A Storied History You can’t think about anime unless you think about mecha. The genre has been around as long as anime has been popular. In fact, you could argue that it was central to popularizing anime, especially among Western audiences. This momentum was no doubt a boon for many creators who now had a larger audience to bring their own creations to. With that in mind I declare March my month of mecha. What better way to celebrate it than by making a list of the Top 10 Classic Mecha Anime? These are some mecha anime that left an undeniable mark on the medium. Mobile Suit Gundam (First Gundam) Without Yoshiyuki Tomino, one of anime and the mecha genre’s most iconic series would not exist. In 1979 audiences were blessed with the very first entry in the now long running Gundam series. What was once […]

Pokémon Black And White

Pokémon Black and White: A Review On Ash’s Unova Journies

I know a lot of the fan base is going to curse me for this, but I LOVE THE BLACK AND WHITE (Best Wishes in Japanese) SEASON of Pokémon. The hate for this series is utter nonsense and the constant “Ice Cream Pokémon” criticism is starting to get old. It’s actually much better than it looks and if people would stop comparing it with the Original Season, Advanced Generations and the Diamond and Pearl Season. You’d be able to see how old school the Black and White season really is. Story wise, it starts off as all new Pokémon seasons do with Ash Ketchum setting out on a new adventure. Yet, he’s still 10 years old. How does this guy never age? Teach me your secrets master! Anyway, he sets out on a journey to a brand new region with butt-loads of brand new Pokémon […]

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans Review

Breakdown The Gundam series has always, as a trademark staple, given us humanizing and engrossing portrayals of war and human conflict. In almost every iteration and entry in the franchise, we see a futuristic society in or on the verge of conflict. Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans is no different. However this may be one entry with the darkest premise yet. This is an era that sprung up from the very ravages of conflict and it shows. The very title of the show hints at it after all. Thus, with that in mind, is it a good anime? Is it worthy of your time? Read on to find out. Synopsis To reflect the darker setting, this isn’t the ‘Cosmic Era’ or ‘After Colony’ era. Instead this is the ‘Post Disaster’ era. Society has been so defined by conflict that the years are counted around it. In […]

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny Review

Breakdown The First Alliance-PLANT War is over but thing’s aren’t as rosy as we’d like it to be. This is a world where Earth is largely home to ‘natural’ humans. Outer space on the other hand hosts numerous colonies known as ‘PLANT’s’. Here, genetically enhanced humans known as ‘Coordinators’ reside. Enter a story of war, human struggle and the differences that often drive us apart. Before continuing with this review we highly recommend you look at Mobile Suit Gundam SEED first. This both helps you get a full grasp of what’s at stake here while avoiding any confusion or spoilers for those curious about the original series. That said, let’s take a look at Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. Synopsis Humanity’s tale is one of struggle. We fight over resources, money and even petty differences. In the far future of the ‘Cosmic Era’, things are no different. […]

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl: An Honest Review By Earl

When you think of a series that’s been done to death, Pokémon is usually the first to come to mind. While I grew up watching and loving the original Pokémon series as a kid and dabbed in Pokémon Advanced, I found myself wondering if anyone still likes the series. In all honesty, this was the time when I found myself becoming less of a fan ever since high school happened. However, I still enjoyed the franchise as a kid as it offered something I always wanted to go on: that is on an adventure. For most people, Ash as the main protagonist isn’t very appealing. However, what I loved about him is that he never gives up in pursuing his dreams. And he can be too kind to other people as well. I then decided to ask a friend about their opinion about the Diamond and Pearl […]
